Relates to: www.americanwaymag.com/aw/business/feature.asp?archive_date=10/15/2003 User comment by gv Time to walk the walkIn his interview with The Modern Traveler, David O'Reilly is quoted as saying "We have a responsibility to encourage our government partners to ensure that the economic benefits we bring are being invested for the good of the country and its citizens...This is a difficult message to deliver. Some people think we only take. But, we should be open about communicating our concerns. We can be a voice for good." Nice words. David O'Reilly, are you following up on these words by being a "voice for good" in Burma? Hiring a few doctors isn't enough. Are you communicating any concerns to the Burmese government? And to the author of the Modern Traveler article, Rober McGarvey, before you are so easily impressed by a CEO's words make sure you do the background research. Chevron deals with some of the nastiest dictators. O'Reilly appears to be the least picky about governmental partners, not the most, as far as I've read. --Golda |
