Ken Green, Ward I Democratic Primary candidate

Candidate Ken Green took the time to answer some questions by email:

Q1) What would your first priorities be as a Ward I council member?

A1) Prioritize the needs of Ward 1, then encourage a diversified economic base, which provides for long-term economic health and quality of life.

Q2) What do you see as the main need or needs in Ward I?

A2) Safety and quality of delineated crosswalk and bus shelters around schools where none exist. Life issues, ie pot holes, speed mediation signs around schools.  By  promoting the
safety of the neighborhoods  I want to create security among citizens and
visitors.

Q3) How would you approach the Rio Nuevo situation?

A3) Continue working with subcommittees committed to transparent revelations and accountability to the residents, to revitalize downtown Tucson as the economic, civic, and cultural center of the community. Demand a visual  representation by model or drawing to see the long and short term, impact on projected projects. Secure proper representation from Ward 1 residents in the planning stage of any project..

Q4) What is your feeling about open vs. closed meetings?

A4) My feeling is that first of all all meetings should be open to the public, with as I said transparent revelations, ideas, suggestions made all residents have the opportunity to participate in community decisions and the Council’s accountability.

Q5) Would you have a strong policy in this regard, especially for subcommittees that are currently sometimes meeting behind closed doors?

A5) Yes, to promote confidence in the Council by City residents and businesses.

Q6) Is there anything you feel needs to be changed in the way the current council operates?

A6) Yes, I would demand the highest standards of professional ethics
and accept responsibility for our own actions. Provide responsive leadership
to promote regional action to ensure effective, efficient, and equitable
delivery of services for the residents of Tucson.
